Zetmeir Health Science Building

In order to better train the next generation of healthcare workers, the design for Labette Community College’s Health Science Building incorporates insights from HFG’s extensive hospital design expertise.

The Story:

In order to better train the next generation of healthcare workers, the design for Labette Community College’s Health Science Building incorporates insights from HFG’s extensive hospital design expertise. Simulation hospitals enable students to learn skills and techniques in safe environments that are similar in design to those in which they will deliver care. To successfully prepare nurses for the future, it is necessary to provide evidence-based learning experiences within patient-centered environments. HFG’s medical specialization allows us to design forward-looking simulations and educational environments

The Details:

The new 28,500 SF Zetmeir Health Science Building nursing school at Labette Community College is certified as LEED Silver for sustainable design. This project consisted of a simulated hospital environment for the training of nurses, radiographers, physical therapy assistants, and dental assistants. Features of HFG’s design include an alcove space; built-in receptionist area; open vending area; group room / new hire orientation space; staff work room; large conference room; ADA compliant men’s and women’s restrooms; education simulation room; control/observation room; debriefing classroom; office space; storage/copy room; and special educational material storage space.
