The new Step Down Unit features 14 private patient rooms, each equipped with a toilet, sink, and overhead lift to enhance patient mobility and safety. The unit is organized in a U-shaped layout, maximizing natural light and exterior views, with a skybox introducing daylight into interior rooms. At the core, nursing staff areas are strategically positioned to maintain clear sightlines into each patient room while housing essential supplies, medications, and nourishment stations.
HFG employed evidence-based design principles to enhances the healing environment; access to natural daylight, intuitive workflows, and optimized patient observation all serve to increase patient healing and staff satisfaction. Dedicated spaces for nursing staff, including a locker room, break room, and training space, support staff well-being and operational efficiency. By integrating these elements, the project elevates the level of care our nation’s veterans deserve.
