The Story:
The spirit of a community can only thrive when its people are healthy and well cared for. The Emergency Center Replacement Project at McAlester Regional Health Center (MRHC) created a new opportunity for the community of McAlester, OK. For the first time in years, the community has an emergency center that can serve all of its needs close to home without forcing residents to drive to larger, nearby cities. In addition to accommodating the increased patient volumes that the hospital has experienced over the last several years, the facility will address anticipated future volumes of up to 36,000 annual emergency department visits and has a maximum capacity of approximately 50,000 annual visits. With this increased capacity and improved quality, the people of McAlester can rest assured that they will be well cared for both now and in the future.
The Details:
This 18,300 SF Emergency Department Replacement Project was designed using Lean Design principles to identify the best layout for patients and employees and optimize operational efficiencies. Immersive virtual reality also helped to identify potential opportunities early on and enabled HFG to successfully realize MRHC’s dreams for its new facility. Organized with an efficient front-of-house / back-of-house design to allow for separate patient and staff flows, this state-of-the-art facility features 14 treatment rooms, 4 Level III trauma rooms, and other required support spaces. Trauma rooms are divided by operable sliding doors that can accommodate an additional patient during mass trauma situations. The expanded facility will also complement a decentralized and scalable nurse staffing model for maximum flexibility.
