Edwards Air Force Base

This award-winning, 17,500 square foot modernization and expansion project at Edwards Air Force Base has been recognized for design excellence by the U.S. Air Force Design Awards Program, denoting the projects impact on both healthcare delivery and architectural innovation. The transformative project elevates the standard of care for our nation's active duty personnel while establishing itself as a cultural landmark that reflects the region's unique cultural heritage.

At the heart of the project is a new rehabilitation building, along with the renovation and expansion of specialty care clinics, simulation and training spaces, dental and mental health departments, and ambulance bays. Thoughtful planning optimized patient flow, improved staff efficiency, and modernized infrastructure. To facilitate the phasing of the project, HFG was responsible for the design and phased coordination of layouts for three complex Temporary Phasing Facilities that enabled continuous operations during construction.

Every aspect of the design was guided by a commitment to functionality, longevity, and regional authenticity. The facility’s Pueblo and Spanish-inspired architecture, featuring exposed beams, flat roofs, and earth-toned materials, creates a strong sense of place while supporting the base’s unique character. The result is a world-class medical center that blends cutting-edge care with timeless design, offering an enhanced healing environment for those who serve.
