For a hospital system to function smoothly, all parts must be integrated into a clearly defined master plan. One component of Health Facilities Group’s work for Labette Health in Parsons, KS consisted of connecting multiple buildings to ensure that the medical complex could function as the single system it was meant to be. In order to connect the renovated hospital, an existing medical office building, and a new medical office building, HFG considered crowd flow and the needs of staff to move between the buildings. Plans also had to factor in the need for project phasing in order to ensure that the hospital’s functionality was not affected by construction. HFG excels at complex infrastructure projects that involve seamlessly blending existing and new structures.
This 150,000 SF project included a complete overhaul of the outpatient and inpatient surgery area and a new pedestrian “Main Street” corridor that connects public portions of the hospital to an existing Medical Office Building and a new 36,000 SF, three-story Medical Office Building. Other notable project elements included a main infrastructure and power plant rebuild; an Outpatient Therapy and Physical Therapy building, featuring water therapy pools; a new Admissions area and meeting rooms; a new Lab Department; Women’s Imaging capabilities; a new Entrance and Lobby; a centralized waiting area; education meeting rooms; a diabetes clinic and children’s diabetes education center; ER remodeling; and a dining area. The multi-phased project was staged to allow the hospital to remain fully operational.
