Henderson Health Care Services is a nonprofit, community-based healthcare network located in the heart of rural Nebraska. When designing a Long-Term Care addition to Henderson’s campus, Health Facilities Group sought to design spaces that would nourish our elders in their day-to-day lives. From a spacious living room soaked in natural lighting to an outdoor patio area, Henderson Long-Term Care embodies the belief that elders deserve environments that can stimulate, comfort, and inspire. At Health Facilities Group, we respect that elders seeking long-term care are also searching for their new home.
Health Facilities Group designed a new, 36-bed Long-Term Care addition that attaches to the existing Assisted Living facility on the Henderson Health Care Services campus. This addition replaces the institutionalism of the previous 50-year-old building with an innovative approach to recreating the intimacy and comfort of home.
At the core of HFG’s design are three 12-bed modified Green House modules that each have their own common spaces, including dining rooms, dens, nurse stations, and support areas. Instead of a traditional format of stark corridors and small bedrooms, our layout wraps larger resident rooms around spaces that can be enjoyed by all in order to maximize social interaction and accessibility.
Although each 12-bed home is self-sufficient, the units are also connected to create one 36-bed facility, allowing for the efficient flow of staff, services, and residents throughout the whole community. This addition is part of HFG’s ongoing Master Plan for renovations and additions across the Henderson Health Care Services campus, including both Assisted Living and Hospital projects.
